Short story cooler hoses had gigantic holes and motor overheated and seized. Any remedies worth trying? I've heard penetrating oil in the cylinders to soak for a couple weeks also heard diesel fuel in the cylinders same concept as the penetrating oil. _________________ 64' Type III Squareback |

It depends on what seized. Usually it's a bearing that causes a seizure. Not a piston. I personally don't see a hole in a oil line causing an overheat. It would cause oil to come out of the motor and starve the motor to death.
How do you know it was an overheat that caused the seizure? |

Sorry wasn't clear out was the cooler hoses that run from the fan to the block so basically the block wasn't getting any kind of air. _________________ 64' Type III Squareback |

if the piston is seized this is what i read........
1
Soak the cylinder above and below the piston with penetrating oil. Let the cylinder soak for about eight hours. Attempt to move the piston by turning the crankshaft nut of the vehicle both clockwise and counterclockwise. Repeat this procedure a few times, allowing the oil to soak the piston and the cylinder.
2
Soak the cylinder again with oil, and tap the face of the piston on both the exhaust and intake sides with the soft-faced hammer. Attempt to turn the piston again. This should knock any debris loose from between the piston and the cylinder walls. This is sometimes necessary if the cylinder has been infused with water, such as when a watercraft or boat engine is submerged.
3
Remove the rod and cylinder from the engine and gently clamp the cylinder in a vise. Heat the sides of the cylinder briefly with the propane torch; this will cause it to temporarily expand. While the cylinder is still warm, tap the top of the piston with the soft-faced hammer. This should allow the piston to slide through the cylinder.
4
Hone the cylinder above the piston and try Steps 2 and 3 again with the cylinder in the vise. If the piston still does not become free, it is time to purchase a new cylinder, piston and rod. At this point, even if the piston could be removed, the cylinder and piston are probably damaged beyond repair.
But i will agree with B its ussually a bearing... _________________ Save The TaTas

Hoses from the fan to the block? That must be a type III thing that I'm unfamiliar with. Almost sounds like a watercooled motor. |

I see what your talking about there are two hoses that go from the fan assembly to the cooling tins that cool the motor. I can see if they werent attached or damaged you wouldnt get any air flow.

the hoses are for the heaterboxes only. was the intake boot missing? the one that goes from the body to the engine? _________________ broken again |

If it seized its done period....damage has been done....especially if a bearing...anything you try will be a VERY short term band-aid _________________ Facebook link:

I have to agree with speedy. Any form of seize is bad. Any form of repair other than rebuild is just a bandwidth that might get you through till you can either her it rebuilt ir get another motor. I know for a fact that the penetrating oil and diesel trick works on h2o motors especially for a blown head gasket (I've done it). But on an air cooled, do what you have to do but expect to be looking for a replacement. Maybe im wrong, but talk to a shop for professional al advice. _________________ SEMI-SORTA-KINDA-MAYBE-IN A ROUND A BOUT WAY-GENERALLY SPEAKING-IF YOU LOOK AT IT IN THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE.
